Otis Ray “Nub” Stoops age 77 went to be with his heavenly Lord on Sunday, July 18, 2021 at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Missouri. He was born on February 5, 1944 in Ottawa County, Oklahoma, the son of Charles Herbert II and Evelyn (Pogue) Stoops.
He was a member and Deacon of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church. He was the past board member F.S.A. and current board member of Water District # and had worked at B.F.Goodrich and Craig County Farm Supply. He graduated from Commerce High School and was awarded a scholarship to play football for Connor’s State College. He liked to watch sports and was a huge Sooner’s fan.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife Vetta, of the home; 2 sons, Blaine Stoops and his wife Sandy, of Waxahachie, Texas and Craig Stoops, of rural Miami, Oklahoma. Also surviving is a brother, Charles Herbert III Stoops and his wife Nancy, of Freemont, Nebraska, a sister, Kathryn Frazee of rural Miami, Oklahoma, 3 grandchildren, Aaron Stoops and wife Renae of Edmond, Oklahoma, Taylor Stoops of Waxahachie, Texas and Morgan Stoops of rural Miami, Oklahoma, 2 great-grandchildren Beckham Stoops and Foster Stoops, both of Edmond, Oklahoma and other relatives and friends.
Nub’s wishes were to be cremated. The family will hold a visitation on Thursday, July 22, 2021 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home in Commerce, with a Celebration of Life starting at 7:00PM with Rev. David McCord and Rev. Ed McFall, officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Paul Thomas Funeral Home, Commerce.
