JOPLIN, Mo. – Police link a Joplin area man to six July burglaries. According to Joplin police, 29-year-old Brady Shafer was arrested with the help of a K9, after running from a church that had been broken into, The First Baptist Church at 41st and Connecticut. Police say Shafer identified himself as homeless. After investigations, police also connected him to burglaries at Bodegas, Bartlett’s Shoe Company, New Hope Church, Saint Phillips Episcopal Church, and South Joplin Christian Church. ST. LOUIS, Mo. – A full Federal Appeals Court panel is re-hearing a case over Missouri abortion restrictions. The U.S. 8th Circuit Court of Appeals last week decided to take up the case on its own motion. At issue is a 2019 state law to ban abortions as soon as eight weeks into pregnancy and prohibit abortions based on a Down Syndrome diagnosis. A three-judge panel of the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals last month upheld a lower court injunction prohibiting Missouri from enforcing the provisions. WASHINGTON, D.C. – The American Academy of Pediatrics announced that students and teachers should wear masks regardless of their vaccination status when they return to school this fall. The call for masks comes as not everyone is fully vaccinated, and vaccines aren’t available to children under 12. The Delta variant also is appearing more often in younger people, and given how contagious it is, officials with the academy believe the best course of action is masks for everyone two and up in school settings. American Academy of Pediatrics tells parents students and teachers should wear masks this fall
