Keeping pets cool in extreme heat

JOPLIN, Mo. – When the temperatures rise, watch out for your pets.

Experts say don’t leave them unattended in a parked car, groom your pets regularly, limit exercise and watch for any symptoms of overheating.

“You want to look for things like dizziness, disorientation just excessive panting, red-like bright red gums.” said Thomas Jay of the Joplin Humane Society. “Uncontrollable shivering, that is another big thing.”

Also, avoid pavement when walking your dog. The hot surface can burn you dog’s paws.
