Father and son arrested in drive-by shooting case

VERNON COUNTY, Mo. – Authorities arrest a father and son for multiple-incidents including a drive-by shooting near Nevada, Missouri.

According to Vernon County Sheriff Jason Mosher, they took a report of property damage at a home on South 1100 road near Moundville over Memorial Day weekend. Someone had shot an arrow through a window. The home had multiple broken windows and a horse was killed.

On June 2, 2021, at a home on E Mission Road, authorities took another report of multiple shots being fired at the home.

Investigators believed the incidents were connected. On June 3 and 4, investigators served two search warrants in Nevada. One at a home on the 600 block of N West Street and another on the 100 block of S Prewitt Street.

Authorities say they found evidence leading to the arrests of Joshua (father) and Chase (son) Leer.

The Prosecutor’s Office has filed the following the charges against the men.

    • Stalking 1st Degree
    • Harassment 1st Degree
    • Property Damage 1st Degree
  • Chase Leer
    • Unlawful Use of a Weapons – Shoot At/From Vehicle at a Building/Person
    • Armed Criminal Action
    • Endangering the Welfare of a Child

Sheriff Jason Mosher says there were people in the home at the time, including a child.

“This was a reckless and dangerous act that could have hurt or killed someone, so we are grateful that no one was injured during the shooting.”
