CHANUTE, Kan. – Chanute police arrested a chase suspect after he bailed out of a moving vehicle with two passengers still inside.
It happened Saturday, June 5, around 9:10 p.m. Chanute police officers attempted to stop a van traveling north near the 2700 block of South Santa Fe at a high rate of speed. Authorities say the driver refused to stop and led police on a chase. During the pursuit, the suspect hit another vehicle and sped away.
As the vehicle approached 7th and Santa Fe, the passenger side front tire came off and the van began to slow down. The driver jumped out and took off west on foot. Police say the van continued to roll across 7th street and came to a rest at a utility pole. There were still two adult females in the vehicle but both were unharmed.
Another officer apprehended the driver about a half block away. He was arrested on for speeding, reckless driving, driving without a valid license, improper driving on a laned roadway, failing to stop at an accident, no insurance, interference with a law enforcement officer, felony flee and elude, possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. They also arrested the two females for possession of Methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Officials charged have not yet been filed.
