Pittsburg State hosts football camp for local high schools

PITTSBURG, KS. – Brain Wright and the Pittsburg State football staff host a three day camp beginning on Saturday. High school teams from local area schools including Pittsburg, Columbus, Carthage and Field Kindley are in attendance.

The camp is used as a recruiting tool. The Pitt State coaches can evaluate local talent and conversely, the athletes are able to showcase their skills. It’s also an opportunity for the high school programs to start getting repetitions in preparation for the upcoming fall season.

“They’re excited,” Field Kindley head football coach, Deonta Wade said of his kids. “On the ride over they were hype. They’re ready to go. It’s going to be a wake up call. We haven’t done anything football related since November. I just want to see where we currently stand. Good, bad or indifferent, we still have to get better. There’s some really good programs here and we get to go compete against them, so it should be fun for us.”
