GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. – The Crowder College Roughriders posted an “ambush inning” in the 6th inning on Tuesday night against Indians Hills at the JUCO World Series – scoring 8 runs on their way to a 12-8 victory.

“If you got a chance to put somebody away out here, you better do it,” says Crowder head coach Travis Lallemand, “Out here, no lead is safe. Big innings are three runs. We call 5+ runs in an inning an “ambush inning.” We’ve played in some wild games. You want to make sure you put yourself in a position to separate yourself on the scoreboard, so you can withstand some of those errors and things that come in big games like this.”

It was a bit of a revenge game for the Roughriders.

Indian Hills rolled by Crowder 10-3 in the opening game of the World Series last Saturday, putting the Roughriders on the left side of the bracket. Crowder won back-to-back games after that loss, then knocked the Warriors out of the tournament Tuesday night.

“I know they had mentioned it and talked about it a little bit,” Lallemand says of his team wanting to avenge Saturday’s loss, “It was something…they wanted a little vengeance on.”

Crowder now has the day off Wednesday, before playing in the national semifinals on Thursday.

“We got a lot of work to do, but we were in the same spot in 2017 and lost this game today,” Lallemand says, “Now, we get to reset our pitching, and our #1 guy will back out there on Thursday. We’ve put ourselves in a great situation. We got a day to recover and rest a little bit. We’re going to come out Thursday and hopefully play well enough to get a chance to do what we came out here to do in the first place, which is compete for a national title.”
