17-year-old rescued from Lowell house fire passes away

CHEROKEE COUNTY, Kan. – A 17-year-old pulled from a house fire in Lowell, Kansas has passed away.

Cherokee County Sheriff David Groves confirmed to KOAM that Briann King, who just graduated high school, passed away yesterday.

Early Monday morning, May 24, fire crews responded to a structure fire in Lowell with a confirmed entrapped victim.

According to the Baxter Springs Fire Department, police officer and firefighter Seth Brown got there first in his patrol vehicle. He went inside the burning home with another person from the home and pulled King out. The Department says there was significant risk to their own safety.

Brown then performed CPR for four minutes on her until Fire and EMS arrived. Firefighters put out the second story fire without further incident.

Sheriff Groves says the cause of the fire is still under investigation. They called the State Fire Marshal to help in the investigation.
