Two inmates escape Cherokee County jail overnight


COLUMBUS, Kan. – Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office says two inmates escaped jail in Columbus, Kansas overnight. They say Mark Gerald Hopkins II and Michael Wayne Martslof escaped around 11 p.m. on Monday May 24. They are considered armed and dangerous.

Police suspect both escapees left in a 2008 White Honda Accord with Missouri licenses plates. Those plate numbers are LG2X0F. Hopkins was held for a double homicide. Martslof was incarcerated for drug related crimes.

Hopkins and Martslof are considered armed and dangerous. Authorities ask you all 911 or the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office at (620) 429-3992 if you have any information.
