Gary Lee Owens, 58, of Goodman, passed away suddenly on Friday, April 30, 2021 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin.

Gary was born February 14, 1963, in Stella to Chester and Patsy (Cupp) Owens. Gary was a simple man, always enjoying the outdoors and his time spent fishing, hunting, and riding horses. He was the best storyteller. Gary was a talented sheetrock hanger and also worked in the construction and diesel industries. While he was always straight to the point, Gary had the heart to find potential in everyone. He loved his family more than anything and he will be greatly missed.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Patsy; and three brothers, Mark, Paul and Felix Owens.

Gary’s brother, Chester Owens, Jr., passed away shortly after on Sunday, May 2, 2021.

He is lovingly survived by his children, Ryanna Votipka (Matthew), Zackariaha Owens, Amber Marston, and Jordan Owens; 10 grandchildren, Hayden Owens, Hailie Robertson, Allen Pooler, Cheyann Parker, Jordyn Dillard, Hadlee Dixon, Cayson Brushwood, Mason Marston, Mya Gerard, and Darius Owens; four siblings, Brenda Rutherford (Jim), Becky Rue (Jim), and Bobby Owens; sister-in-law, Nickie Owens; as well as a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

The family will hold a memorial service at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, May 8, at Hope Baptist Church in Joplin. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
