PSU’s Brett Thompson sets school record in javelin at Gorilla Classic

PITTSBURG, KS – PSU track and field hosts its annual Gorilla Classic on Sunday.

In the men’s javelin… National Track and Field Athlete of the Week, Brett Thompson wins. Thompson’s best throw of the day reaches 251 feet and 5 inches. That mark sets a new personal record  for Thompson and sets a new school record. His throw today is also the third best DII mark in history.

“I just really wanted to improve. That’s what I want to do every week,” Thompson says. “I was aiming for a facility record and I broke that, and I got the school record finally, so I’m pretty happy to be able to accomplish that. It’s everything I’ve worked for. I want to keep improving, so I don’t want to be satisfied yet, but I’m very happy with it.”

In the 100 meter hurdles, Missouri Southern’s Claire Luallen finishes in second place with a time of 14.26. For the men, Louis Rollins finishes in first place for PSU at 14.38.

Another PSU athlete, London Futch, gets the first place finish in the 400 meter dash with a time of 56.36. On the men’s side, Brieon Randle (MSSU) finishes second and Sam Tudor (PSU) wins with a time of 48.08. Tudor gets a new personal record with his time today.

“That’s the first real 400 I’ve had outdoors since like 2018, so it feels good to actually run fast again,” Tudor says. “I feel like I executed my race basically perfectly for me. It just feels good. Sadly, I didn’t get a DII provisional mark but I’m only three tenths away so it’s not super far to work for.”
