Christopher “Bear” Andrew Schmidt of Quapaw, OK passed from this life Monday, April 5, 2021 at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, MO. He was 55.

Christopher was born May 15, 1965 in Oakland, CA to Sidney Grant and Sammie (Tyner) Schmidt. He had lived in the Miami and Quapaw area most of his life. Christopher graduated from Quapaw High School Class of 1983 and served 4 years in the U.S. Marine Corps. He had worked for Grand Lake Casino in Grove, OK.

Christopher was preceded in death by a daughter Janie Schmidt and an infant son, his father Sidney Grant Schmidt,1 brother Russell Schmidt and 1 sister Leanne Chance.

Survivors include 2 sons Johnathan Schmidt of Neosho Falls, KS and Clayton James Schmidt of Miami, OK, his parents Harvey and Sammie Schmidt of Quapaw, OK and 1 brother Tyner Harvey Schmidt of Quapaw, OK.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at the Seneca – Cayuga Community Building, NE of Grove, OK. Charlie Diebold, Ceremonial Chief will officiate. Interment will be in Bassett Grove Cemetery, NE of Grove, OK with Military Rites conducted by Grove Veterans Ritual Team. Christopher will lie in state at Seneca – Cayuga Community Building.
