WASHINGTON, D.C. – The CDC says more than 16 percent of Americans have now received at least one covid vaccine dose, and that the average number of doses administered each day has reached two million. California and Maryland now plan to send more vaccines to vulnerable communities to battle inequities.

JOPLIN, Mo. – Mercy hospital is temporarily allowing walk-in appointments for people currently eligible for a covid-19 vaccine. That includes people 65 and older, people 18 and older with health conditions that make them high risk, health care workers, first responders and other emergency personnel. Supply is limited and doses will be given on a first come first served basis. Walk-ins will be accepted today (Friday) and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

HUMBOLDT, Kan. – The Kansas governor signs legislation to provide relief for cities facing high gas bills. Governor Kelly announced Wednesday, a 100-million dollar low-interest loan program has been created for cities facing high utility bills after February’s winter weather. One southeast Kansas city that the loan program could benefit in a big way is Humboldt, Kansas. Right now, Humboldt faces a 1.6-Million dollar natural gas bill. Humboldt’s normal monthly gas bill is closer to 30-thousand dollars. So they don’t have the money to cover it, and residents wouldn’t be able to afford the kind of price hike it would take to pay it.

PITTSBURG, Kan. – The Pittsburg Police Department releases new details about a suspicious device found Wednesday near Pittsburg State University. Campus police found the device on the 15-hundred block of Joplin Street and later the Kansas State Highway Patrol’s hazardous device unit left with the device. On Thursday, troopers say they were able to dismantle it and found it contained a small amount of incendiary components. Pieces of the device have been sent to a lab to look for further evidence.
