COLUMBUS – Viola Marie Zwahlen, age 95, of Columbus, Kansas, passed away at 1:45 p.m. Monday, March 1, 2021 at the Solace House of the Ozarks in Joplin, Missouri.
Viola Marie Griffitt was born on November 1, 1925 in Richland, Missouri, to Jess and Maud (Patch) Griffitt. She attended Columbus Kansas High School.
On February 13, 1943 she married Abraham Harvey Zwahlen in Picher, Okla. They lived in Winston Salem, NC while Harvey was in service during World War II, up on returning they lived in Sherman City, KS, moving to McCune, KS, in 1949 where they lived until 1992, when they moved to Grove, Ok. Viola lived with her daughter Dixie for four years. Later she resided at the Autumn Place in Columbus, Kansas.
Family was most important to Viola. She loved to cook and enjoyed fishing, camping, needle work, gardening, and spending time with her friends and family.
Survivors include: two daughters, Brenda Parsons and husband, Charles, of McCune, Ks. and Dixie Alvord and husband, Robert, of Owasso, Ok.; one son, Dennis Zwahlen and wife, Geri, of Vinita, Ok.; one brother, Raymond Griffitt and Sister-in-Law Shirley Griffitt, Brother-in-Law Jerroll Zwahlen of Tulsa, Ok., and Sister-In-Law Betty Zwahlen of Columbus Ks.; seven grandchildren, Kimberly Van Dorn, Kelley Farrell, Katrina Fox, Kevin Alvord, Jennifer Henry, Jeromy Zwahlen and Jackie Bandy, and 21 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Abraham Harvey Zwahlen passed away on February 28, 2002. She was also preceded in death mother and father, one son, David Harvey Zwahlen, granddaughter Kelley Farrell, 2 great-grandsons.
Funeral service will be at the Derfelt Funeral Home in Columbus, Ks on Thursday March 4, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. with visitation starting at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at the McKee Cemetery .
