Lena Roberts, 98, of Excelsior Springs, MO, formerly of Monett, passed away peacefully on Friday evening, February 26, 2021 while at the Northland Rehab and Health Care Center in Kansas City, MO.
Lena was born August 20, 1922, in Monett, daughter of the late Steve and Mary (Bertalot) Balmas. She had attended the Lee School near Monett as a child and had been a lifelong member of the Waldensian Presbyterian Church. For many years, Lena worked for Vaisey Bristol Shoe Company in Monett. Much in life brought joy to Lena, but nothing compared to spending time with her granddaughters.
On June 3, 1964 in Miami, OK, Lena Balmas and George Thomas Roberts were united in marriage. To this union, one son was born. George preceded her in death on July 22, 1974. Also preceding Lena in death was one brother, Albert Balmas; four sisters, Julia Barttrum, Florence Spain, Wilma Balmas and Leona Clapper.
Lena is survived by her son, Raymond Roberts and wife Jamie, of Liberty, MO; two granddaughters, Paige and Marissa Roberts; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at Buchanan Funeral Home with Reverend Randy Crane officiating. Interment will follow at the Waldensian Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-7:00 p.m. on Friday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions have been suggested to Heifer International in care of the funeral home. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett, MO.
