PITTSBURG, Kan. – It’s playoff time for the Pitt State women’s basketball team.
The Gorillas are the #6 seed in the MIAA tournament. They will be on the road against 3rd-seeded Nebraska-Kearney on Wednesday night in the tournament quarterfinals.
It will be the second meeting of the season between the two teams. UNK topped Pitt State 57-53 in Pittsburg back in January.
The Gorillas know they need to win the tournament to stay alive in the hunt for a berth in the national tournament – but they’re feeling confident as the prepare for their second look at the Lopers.
“I feel like most of the things that happened to us were self-inflicted,” says Pitt State senior Maya Williams of the lessons learned from their first meeting with UNK, “If we just focus on minimizing our errors, the rest will take care of itself.”
“It doesn’t really matter where you ended at, as long as you’re in the tournament,” says head coach Amanda Davied, “It should be something that our kids are excited about. It’s not in Kansas City, but nonetheless, it’s a chance to play for a championship and possibly make it to the national tournament.”
The Gorillas will face the Lopers on Wednesday at 6 PM in Kearney, Nebraska.
