Margaret M. Smokewood

WEIR, KS – Margaret M. Smokewood, 89, passed away on February 22, 2021, after a long illness.

She was born September 25, 1931 in Crawford County to Emil and Evelyn Montgomery Simpson. She attended Weir High School graduating in 1948.
She was employed at Crowell’s Store in the Pittsburg at the Mall in the 1970’s, Spencer Chemical Company at Crestline, KS in Cherokee County, KS and was also a homemaker.
She married Darrell E. Smokewood on March 20, 1952 in Columbus, KS. He survives at the home in Weir, KS.

Margaret and her husband Darrell welcomed twin daughters in 1955.

She was a member of the Methodist Church in Weir, KS. She loved antiques and refinished many beautiful pieces of wood furniture.

Her family meant the world to Margaret and she took care of her parents in their old age. Her children and husband were the center of her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Robert and Dick and her daughter Dr. Elaine Smokewood.
She is survived by her husband Darrell Smokewood of the home in Weir, KS and her daughter Cathleen Stahmer and her husband Ken of Augusta, KS an d her beloved granddaughter Sara Swift and her husband Tyler of Augusta, KS. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Due to the current pandemic there will be private graveside services at Lone Elm Cemetery in Cherokee County, KS. Honorary pallbearers will be Tyler Swift, Ken Stahmer, Bill Simpson, Ron Robison, Steve Carlson, Jim Carlson, Jeff Martin and David Simpson.
