Brali Conard is Chetopa’s first ever female to score 1,000 career points

Brali Conard is leaving her mark at Chetopa High School. She is the girls basketball program’s first ever female to reach 1,000 career points.

“It’s a very big accomplishment to me,” Conard says. “Hopefully it influences my younger teammates to want to achieve that same goal one day.”

Conard’s achievement is also a great honor for the program.

“You see all these other schools have athletes do it,” head basketball coach, Jaunc Bradshaw says. “We finally have somebody in our own program exceling at that level.”

The senior surpassed the impressive mark in a game against league opponent, Yates Center.

“I kind of wanted to hit it at home, but hitting it no matter what was exciting,” Conard says. “It was a thrilling moment for me. I think it was a thrilling moment for my team too.”

She recalls the play vividly. A three-pointer sealed the deal.

“I had two seconds left on the clock and I heard the crowd yell “Throw it!” and I threw it up and it went in,” Conard says.

The achievement has made her senior senior extra special.

“My mom printed off pictures of people who couldn’t make it and put them in the stands for me, so it felt like I had a crowd watching,” Conard adds.

Conard is the leading scorer for the Hornets. She is currently averaging about 16.5 points per game.

“She’s very talented. She works hard and she wants to get better every day,” Bradshaw says. “She’s not afraid to ask questions. It has been a blessing to coach someone like her.”

Conard leads by example.

“The girls follow her. Her wealth of knowledge about the game helps a lot because she can be the extension of me on the court,” Bradshaw says.

Without a doubt, the milestone was well deserved and hard earned.

“She works to get better in every aspect of the game, so she can achieve those goals,” Bradshaw says.

Soon, her name will be added to the 1,000 Point Club banner in her school’s gymnasium. Conard’s will be the first female name listed.
