Doris M. Roosa

Doris M. Roosa, 91, of Louisville, passed away February 18, 2021. Born December 7, 1929, she was the daughter of Joseph and Johanna Oplotnik. Doris was a Catholic by faith. She spent her career working for Ben Franklin and Rite Aid. Her philosophy of getting a “good education” and “working hard” ran deep within her and she raised her children with these principles.

Doris Roosa was a loving, kind and gentle person with a huge heart which she shared without hesitation. She always had a smile and a laugh. She was happiest spending time with her family. She taught us all to laugh often and love well even when life presented difficulties.

Born in Columbus, Kansas, she was reared by immigrant parents on a farm. Her parents, Josef Oplotnik and Johanna Ravnikar, arrived by Ellis Island from what was known at that time as the Austrian-Hungarian Empire–modern day Slovenia. She was the youngest of nine and did not speak English until the third grade–when she went to school for the first time. She was reared by siblings after her mother passed tragically when she was 13 years old. She married Glen Roosa and they had two children, Stephen and Cheri.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Stephen (Nan Ellen) Roosa and Cheri (William) Kane; her grandchildren: Sarah (Chris) Collins, Daniel Roosa (Sarah Duncan), and Maryelle (Josh) Moore; Clellan (Emily) Kane, Robbin (Joseph) Honious, her great-grandchildren: William, Nolan and, Madeleine Collins; Ronan Moore; Grant, Owen and Anna Kane; Luke and Nora Honious;
