Man shot at Motel 6 in Joplin dies from injuries

 

JOPLIN, Mo. – The victim of a shooting at Motel 6 in Joplin has died from injuries.

Today, Feb. 15, 2021, just before 12:30 p.m., the Joplin Police Department Emergency Communications Center took a 911 call about shots fired at Motel 6 (3031 S. Rangeline Rd).

Officers got there and found an adult male, identified as Matthew A. Painter, 43 of Joplin, with multiple gunshot wounds. EMS took him to the hospital where he died from his injuries. Authorities have notified next of kin.

Joplin Police also found who they say is the adult male shooter on scene. Earlier today, authorities say the shooter was cooperating with the investigation. They found a handgun at the scene.

At this time no arrest has been made, but the case remains under investigation. Further details will be released once they become available.
