Latest updated Blog: Record cold temperatures and more snow! -Doug

Good Monday night or early Tuesday morning!  Wow is it cold.  We dropped back into the negative mid 10s after the 2011 2 foot blizzard.  We are doing it again.  Here is why.  Arctic air is in place which drops us into single digits almost every winter.  When you get a snow pack and the clouds clear out there is nothing to hold in the very little amount of heat and we drop way below zero.  First off a look at the snow.

SE KS received in the 2-5″ range with Pittsburg at about 4″.  NE OK, NW AR and SW MO where in the 5-8″ range.  Joplin received 7″ which puts the city at 13.5″ for the season.  More is in the forecast for Tuesday night.  Check out the cold on Tuesday morning.  Wind chills way down there.

Thankfully we are a little on Tuesday.  We will also have some sunshine during the morning hours.

However, our next batch of snow rolls in Tuesday night.  This will be mainly after 9pm.  This is the same system in the Heady Pattern that gave us some snow back on January 2nd, right after New Years.

This could come down at a pretty good clip, especially from about 11pm until 4am on Wednesday.  I do think the heavies snow should be out of here by day break.

However, we will still have periods of snow showers on Wednesday.  I just think most of the accumulating snows will be Tuesday night.  Here are the on and off snow showers on Wednesday.

Most of this should be out of here by Wednesday evening.  Now, we are going to get accumulations once again.  I think most areas will be in the 2-4″ range.  Mainly 1-2″ in our northern counties, everyone else, 2-4″.  I will say I would be surprised to see some 5″ amounts so we need to watch it.

The roads will be bad until at least Thursday and then improving as the arctic air retreats for the weekend.  Stay warm and long range forecast is below.

Next Monday-Saturday: A cool Monday but warming up on Tuesday.  Rain chances and turning cooler on Wednesday.  Stay chilly with slight chances for rain or snow on Thursday and Friday.

February 28th-March 6th: Sunday looks mild before we turn cooler on Monday and cold for Tuesday and Wednesday. A brief mild spell for Thursday and Friday before we cool back down on Saturday. A system early in the week will have rain chances for Sunday and Monday. We’ll watch for slight rain and snow chances on Wednesday and slight rain chances on Friday.

March 7th-13th:  A cool start to the week with some showers on Sunday and Monday.  Warming up the second half of the week with rain on Thursday and Friday.

March 14th-20th:  Rain or snow chances on Sunday.  Cool on Sunday and Monday with mild temperatures the rest of the week.  Rain chances back in on Wednesday.
