CHANUTE, Kan. – Police arrested Chanute man following a police chase Friday afternoon. Authorities say he had his daughter in the vehicle.

On February 13 around 12:45 p.m., Chanute police attempted a traffic stop of a Ford truck in the area of Oak and Garfield. The driver refused to stop and fled from police. During the ensuing pursuit, an officer tried to deploy spike sticks. The suspect’s vehicle then swerved toward the officer and his vehicle, causing him to jump in the ditch to avoid being hit.

The pursuit went into the county and ended up in the area of 230th and Lyon Road, where the suspect drove into a cut corn field and ended up in the wooded area. Police say they then learned the driver had his young daughter with him in the vehicle. The girl was not injured and was returned to her mother.

The suspect was arrested on charges of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, aggravated child endangerment, felony flee and elude a police officer, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while suspended, drive without vehicle liability insurance and illegal tag display.

The investigation is still ongoing. Upon completion, reports will be forwarded to Neosho County Attorney’s Office for review and consideration of charges being filed.
