Morning Jolt: Scripps Spelling Bee ends in tie — again

For the second year in a row, the Scripps National Spelling Bee ended in a tie. Vanya Shivashankar, 13, of Olathe, Kansas, and Gokul Venkatachalam, 14, of Chesterfield, Missouri, were named co-champions after spelling every word thrown at them. This is the second year in a row there has been a tie. Before 2014, however, there hadn’t been a tie since 1962.
