Animal shelters filled to capacity during summer months

Summer may be fun and games for some, but it’s proving to be a burden for local animal shelters. The Joplin Humane Society is averaging between 700 and 900 animals coming in per month, largely a result of a spring/summer breeding season for cats and dogs as well as relaxed supervision by pet owners during warmer weather, shelter manager Lysa Boston said.
