A judge granted a rural Joplin man suspended sentences and probation Friday on two felony assault convictions stemming from a drunken-driving accident in which two people were injured. Circuit Judge David Mouton in Jasper County Circuit Court assessed Theron N. Hutching two concurrent, seven-year terms for second-degree assault by operating a vehicle while intoxicated. But the judge suspended execution of the sentences and placed him on probation instead for five years.
