ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The National Geographic Channel says two Alaska State Troopers who were shot and killed in a remote village had been featured on a show about patrolling the state’s wild terrain, but they were not filming at the time of their deaths.

National Geographic said in a statement it was “incredibly saddened” to hear about the deaths Thursday of Trooper Gabriel “Gabe” Rich and Sgt. Patrick “Scott” Johnson in the isolated community of Tanana.
