Joplin City Council hears report on TIF districts

Joplin’s two earliest tax increment financing districts are generating enough sales taxes that they could be paid off early if current sales tax trends continue. A TIF district for 1717 Marketplace, the area surrounding Academy Sports & Outdoors, has been reimbursed about $3.6 million from sales tax revenues toward about $12 million in development costs, Leslie Haase, the city’s finance director, told the City Council at its informal meeting Tuesday.
