Joplin’s two earliest tax increment financing districts are generating enough sales taxes that they could be paid off early if current sales tax trends continue. A TIF district for 1717 Marketplace, the area surrounding Academy Sports & Outdoors, has been reimbursed about $3.6 million from sales tax revenues toward about $12 million in development costs, Leslie Haase, the city’s finance director, told the City Council at its informal meeting Tuesday.
