As filing continues for seats on the Carthage City Council and Carthage R-9 Board of education, city officials already know that one council member will not be filing to return to the city’s governing body.

The City Council has advanced a proposal for a $2.5 million bond issue to pay for construction of a city swimming pool. The council approved the first reading of the measure by a 6-0 vote during a meeting Monday night. The panel will vote Jan. 13 whether to place the proposal on the April 8 election ballot.
